Hey, everyone! I want to take a minute to break from our regularly scheduled program, and ask for your help on something that’s pretty important to me! My mom, brother and sister are going to be driving 1200 miles from North Carolina to Texas, in a little over a week, to participate in the Great Strides walk there. Why?

Photobucket

This is our friend Cassie. My mom met her mom right here on Livejournal, and I can remember being called over to see pictures of Cassie when she was only a few hours old. Her fourth birthday is on the same day as the walk. Cassie was diagnosed with CF three years ago and since then, she has been through four major surgeries. Every day, she deals with twelve medications and a two hour breathing treatment and does so with amazing positivity, patience, courage and an incredibly infectious smile.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-shortening illness, but the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is working hard to change that. Years ago, CF patients rarely lived past their teens and now the average life expectancy is 37. Hopefully, when Cassie reaches that age, the disease will have been beaten and she can say it was just something she used to have when she was little. Really, that’s why we’re walking...to help give her that chance.

I’d give anything to be able to go with my family and walk with her, but work calls for me to stay here. But I can talk to all of you, and ask if you can help in any way! Even something as simple as $1-$2 can really help us out! If youʼd like to make a contribution to our efforts, you can find our family fund-raising page here:
My family's donation page!

I really appreciate any donations you guys can make! If you are able to give something (even if it’s just a dollar), let me know, and I’ll make you a personalized icon of your favorite Disney character!

Thanks for the link * hugs * . I really pray that little girl will be able to "grow out" of the disease one day, and I promise I'll try to donate something.

Is it OK if I link to this entry in my own journal?

^_^ Thanks so much for the wishes! I hope so, too. She really is the sweetest little girl, and she bears her disease and all the things she has to go through so well. *hugs* And any donation would really be appreciated! Let me know if you do, and as I said- you'll be entitled to a personalized icon from me, anytime.

Absolutely you can link it! That would be wonderful! ^_^

Thanks so much!

Well, the problem is that my parents aren't too happy about my buying, much less donating money via the internet--but my local university often has fundraisers for this sort of thing, and the next time they do, I'll think of Cassie and be sure to contribute something.

Oh--just linked and posted it over at my personal journal! Hopefully more people will see it and it will spread the word--or come to the attention of people who live near the area of the Great Strides walk.

That's alright, I understand! I appreciate the thought! That would be wonderful- any donation and any small amount goes a long way! ^_^

Thanks so much for posting on your own journal! It's very sweet of you! ^_^ *hugs*

I am donating ^_^
Let your family know that I am praying for a safe 1200 mile drive to Texas.
I will keep Cassie and her family in my prayers also.
*hugs*

*edit*
I also sent out messages to a few friends on Facebook and Email.

I saw that you donated, thank you SOO much! ^_^ You're so sweet!

They just got back earlier this week from a very safe and fun drive. They got to see so much on the way there and back, I really wish I could have gone with them! :(

*hugs* You're the awesomest. Love you, hun! *hugs again*

OH MY GOODNESS! I'm sorry that this is a late response but I have to tell you thank you for posting this! My fiance just died this year of CF, he was 25 years old. I participated in the Great Strides here in the DC Area for one walk and volunteered for two others. :)

Not that I'm wanting you to donate but here is my fund-raising page: http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/KendraVasquez Congrats on meeting your team's goal! :D

Of course- Cassie is a very special girl, I was happy to do something to try and help!

I'm so sorry to hear about your fiance. I can't imagine what you've gone through, but I know it was terrible. I really hope that we find a cure soon, so that others don't have to go through the same thing. *hugs* Thanks for the link to your page- good luck with all your efforts!
